The flaw with modern thinking is our thoughts are not our own
We think in catchy sound bytes and repeat just what we're shown

The flaw with modern thinking's we've been led astray by lies
And science has assumed control and truth's monopolized

The flaw with modern thinking is we don't know where to look
With eyes that see and minds that work still searching in a book

The flaw with modern thinking is all men are out for self
And honesty's been traded down for trinkets on a shelf

The flaw with modern thinking is we don't see love as clear
Yet who can find compassion while preoccupied with fear?

Yes modern thinking's flawed, but in that flaw resides our hope
And like the fated hangman can be hung by his own rope

For anything that's built on lies can never last as long
When men of courage hold to truth and dare to stand up strong

So heed this truth for in it lies the key to life because
The path to freedom's often hidden deep within your flaws

If I had a penny for every time I didn't trust my gut and regretted it or, plainly, just never thought of asking my gut to take charge and then felt confused, I'd be quite the millionaire! It's good to be reminded that there is a real choice involved in letting people in and keeping them out - even if this "choice" is incomprehensible to the mind or heart, it must still be respected. While this should not be used as an excuse for isolating oneself, the gut is still the best compass/gieger counter/gatekeeper we have. Even the best exterminator can only aim at minimizing the pests if they gain entry. Lonliness should not guide our decision to seal the cracks and take charge of our gateways. Survival - the personal power of gut-level reactions should.

Dear Mr. Goodridge:

I sit here writing to you having only read half of your book: "Turn Your Passion Into Profit".

I was so excited that I had to write you before finishing the book. I am in need of a mentor to help me market my passion product which is essentially complete. I have produced a manuscript of text and poetry.... produced a video tape....and written an essay that is the pinnacle of my research which is currently being considered for publication by the editor of the alumni magazine for the University of Virginia at Charlottesville, VA.

I want so much to free myself from the chains of an unhappy work world. I believe 100% in following your passion as you write about. I'm fearful though of revealing my manuscript for reasons of rejection and controversial issues. I realize though that controversy may cause my work to fly high in the clouds. I'm still scared, however. My work is very unique and definitely unknown to contemporary views. I enjoyed your life story and am interested that you are from Jamaica as my wife and I visited there in 1990. We loved it.

I've been published in the Lynchburg, VA News&Advance newspaper about my research (parts of it). I will forward to you a copy of the article after this letter is done; Again, thanks for writing such a special, and wonderful and informative book!
