_____________ TODAY'S INSPIRATION ___________
This Time Tomorrow
To get beyond the ups and downs
just look ahead with glee
anticipate the moments
when of worries you'll be free
I know it might feel hopeless now
it seems the world has ended
there'll come a day you'll look back from
by then things will have mended
You'll be with friends, you're woes will end
a brand new sun will shine
Be sure this moment cannot last
you'll see, things will be fine
So have no fear it'll be alright
time triumphs over sorrow
just know that this thing too shall pass
by this time tomorrow!
COMMENTARY:
As a child growing up, a favorite aunt would often create a
sense of excitement for us --her nieces and nephews-- by
placing our thoughts in the anticipated future of a coming
event. Whether it was an overseas trip, a graduation, or
some family gathering, she would say with a smile, "This
time tomorrow, you'll be doing such and such..."
Now, at 8 years old, a day can seem like forever. So
even if her words didn't quell the impatience of the 24
hour wait, it gave me practice in focusing my thoughts
on a desireable future.
These days, I often use that technique to focus on the future
when beset with broken promises, delayed dreams, setbacks and
challenges. Yesterday, I was talking to a friend who was
going through her own such challenges. She had already gleaned
the lessons she felt the experience was teaching her, so there
was not much in the way of advice I could give her. So, I
offered what little consolation I could in the form of that
trick I learned indirectly from my aunt: that "times like
these don't come to stay, they come to pass. Cheer up, by
this tomorrow..."
